Emirati film-maker Ali F Mostafa on packing his Tumi carry-on and why South America is on his bucket list

Tomorrow will see the digital release of the original soundtrack for The Worthy, a post-apocalyptic thriller that was one of the largest Arabic genre film productions in the Middle East.
Featuring music by Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring), the album will be released via the composer’s label, void recordings.

Within Ali F. Mostafa‘s latest film The Worthy, I found what I sought — the answers to a few of humanity’s questions. But also through this groundbreaking film that is at once entertaining, edge-of-your-seat enthralling and every bit as Hollywood blockbuster as it is truly Arab, I also discovered that I have many more questions. When a film can do all that, in just under two hours, it’s a full-out winner.

Ali Mostafa represents the UAE in joining the prestigious El Gouna Film Festival in its inaugural year as Jury member.

To create the experience, the film was sent overseas to 4DX specialists, who programme the seat movements and effects to match the on-screen action.
When Ali F Mostafa’s third movie, The Worthy, hits cinemas tomorrow, it will mark a couple of significant milestones – for Arab film in general and Emirati cinema in particular.
The movie could already reasonably claim to be the first Arab post-apocalyptic thriller to go on general release, and this week it was announced that it will be the first Arabic-language movie screened in the 4DX format at Vox Cinemas, featuring moving seats, smoke, wind and water effects, and even smells.
